Standalone engine management system for your BMW street or race car!

evosport offers great ECU "chip" and "flash" upgrades
through our evosport/Powerchip program. In most cases these products are
the best alternative on the market today for enhancing stock ECU's. However, in certain
instances, car owners want or need more engine management control than a chip/flash upgrade of a factory ECU can
provide. In such situations, a high-performance stand-alone engine management system (EMS) is required.
After considerable research, evosport determined that AEM offers the best product value - a technically advanced state-of-the-art product at a very competitive price-point. But
AEM had not developed BMW applications. After extensive conversations with AEM about the BMW market opportunity,
AEM and evosport forged a relationship to bring this leading product to Bimmerphiles. The result has already
been very exciting, with both our street and track test cars producing substantially greater power with the only
variables being the AEM EMS product and our tuning.
The evosport/AEM solution is currently available for several BMW models in plug n play and hardwired versions.

The Basic evosport/AEM EMS (Engine Management System) package for BMW's
includes a new ECU modified by evosport for each customer's specific application. Pricing for the Basic evosport AEM EMS package
begins at $2,195, not including installation. Options such as dual wide band O2 sensors and a gauge
display for inside the car are available at additional cost. Installation is currently on a custom basis. This price includes physical installation of hardware, basic engineering time and two dyno tuning
sessions. Complex applications may require considerably more engineering/tuning time and cost.
The evosport/AEM EMS ECU replaces the factory DME. It controls all of the same functions as
the stock computer, and in some cases, several more. The key benefits of the evosport/AEM EMS are:
- The
owner's (or tuner's) accessibility to all of the software tuning maps;
- The ability to configure (and easily
reconfigure) the software to the owner's exact preferences;
- Additional sensor input and device control not
available on stock ECU's.
Hard-coded ECU's and aftermarket chips are pre-programmed to specific engine
configuration specifications. If those specifications change, you have to buy another chip each time. If you have an
unusual requirement, you may not be able to buy a chip at all. With the evosport/AEM EMS, you can not only
initially tune your engine to your exact specifications, but you can easily change it and fine-tune it whenever you want to,
whatever specifications you want. Adding or changing cams and/or intake? Adding headers? Turbo-charging or
supercharging? Need to richen or lean-out the air/fuel mixture? Need to change the timing? No problem! Nothing new
to buy (or buy again). Simply re-program the EMS to meet your new needs. You can even data log a run on the street,
track or dyno, review your readings, immediately make changes to the software maps, and check results.
Sound great so far? It is, but some other leading competitive stand-alone engine
management systems can do most of this. Where the evosport/AEM EMS system really separates itself from the pack is
in its software flexibility and ease of use. For example, most competitive systems require data cell-by-cell programming,
often with little or no ability to template settings to build or revise maps. This is very labor intensive. With AEM, the
user or tuner can highlight broad areas of system software maps and make "global" changes based on percentages
or specific set values. Areas of maps can be interpolated to quickly blend rows or columns. Features like Auto mapping
can be used to quickly start shaping the map so the general required overall shape will become apparent. Wide band
O2 feedback can be used to ensure that the engine will always run at a user-defined air/fuel ratio.
The ability to select what parameters can be viewed and logged also greatly speeds up
the tuning process. The tuner can filter out data that is not pertinent to the task at hand. Features like being able to
change injector sizes after initial engine tuning by simply going into the software and telling the EMS what the old injector
size was and what the new size is, then letting the EMS automatically calculate required changes to maps and make them. Another
useful tuning aid is the ability to easily change sensors for particular functions. Lose your coolant temp sensor? The local
parts store doesn't have your part in stock? Simply fit a different one in and go back into the Wizard and reconfigure the
software for the new sensor. More advanced standard features like programmable traction control, exhaust gas temp feedback
and user definable knock sensor control are just a few more unique capabilities that set the evosport/AEM EMS apart
from the competition.
With the evosport/AEM EMS installed in your BMW, the tuning possibilities are
virtually limitless. The tuner will be able to define all points of engine operation from idle speed to spark advance, from
injector pulse width to percent wheel speed slip. Add in our first rate customer support to properly back your investment
and you can be assured that the evosport/AEM EMS will help bring your BMW closer to being the TRUE ultimate driving
machine you desire.

*More Processing Power - If your only needs are operating
injectors and firing coils, the fact is that an old 8-bit processor could be adequate. However, today's customers, their
cars and their needs are much more sophisticated. Therefore, more processing power and flexibility are required from a
modern stand-alone engine management system. Compare what you could do with an old 8-bit PC to what you can do with a
current model PC - no comparison right? The use of an advanced high-speed 16/32 bit Motorola hybrid processor means the evosport AEM EMS will be able to meet even the most demanding engine management needs. It can gather and store data
from an array of sophisticated sensors. This will enable a tuner to make the right decisions to maximize an engine's
performance.
*User-Friendly - The evosport/AEM EMS system
utilizes the industry standard and readily programmable Windows™ Operating System (2000, NT, 98, 95, ME). As a result,
copying, viewing and manipulating data is as simple as the click of the mouse. User-defined templates are easily
configurable and enable tuners to establish "quick keys" to any pertinent information during the tuning
process. The AEM EMS' extremely flexible software allows tuners to program virtually any combination of engine control,
power adders and auxiliary devices.

*Runs on Windows Computer - Software runs on Windows™ compatible systems.
*Free Software Updates - Log on to aempower.com to download the latest software updates for your EMS.
*Uses all the Factory Sensors - and they are all
configurable. No need to go out and buy multiple additional sensors ($$). Only in certain circumstances (such as the
need for a MAP sensor if you wish to remove the HFM in a forced induction application), would additional sensors
potentially be required.
*Fuel Table Auto mapping - With the Fuel Auto mapping
software, your car can be tuned (to a base level) in literally minutes! All you need is an accurate air fuel ratio
input and then let the ECU do the rest. You have the ability to define the target A/F ratio (at 357 different
Load/RPM points) as well as all the accuracy criteria. Auto mapping is included with every evosport AEM EMS
sold at no additional cost!
*Base Maps Included - We always make base maps
available to help you get started. They are what you need to start your car, get a basic idle, make your A/C work,
and more. We actually put hundreds of hours into our base maps on stock cars testing them in numerous real-world conditions.
*Onboard 512kb Data logger Samples up to 250 Times Per
Second - No more racing with your laptop in the passenger seat! With our 15 channel, high speed internal
data logger, you can finally get the data you need to take tuning to the next level. With access to over 400 internal
operating parameters and featuring logging rates of up to 250 samples/sec/channel and "loop" logging, you'll
practically be buried in data! Additionally, the logger can be activated based on a cockpit switch, RPM, car speed,
load, or throttle thresholds. The supplied AEM Log professional data analysis package supports math channels, multiple
file & channel overlays, and histograms. Of course, if you want to race with your laptop duct taped to your roll
bar, go right ahead because we also feature adjustable speed PC data logging. Both loggers are included with every evosport AEM EMS sold at no additional cost.
*Programmable Traction Control - Finally a way to put
that power to the ground. With our programmable traction control, you can get the 60 ft times you need. No individual
wheel speed sensors are required and you get to program the allowable engine acceleration rates based on RPM and gear
position. This is included with every evosport AEM EMS sold at no additional cost.
*Up to 10 Cylinder Sequential Fuel Injection - The AEM
EMS features 10 sequential fuel injector drivers. Any injector can be configured to fire in any order at any time. Also,
any injector can be configured to run as a fully sequential staged injector of any size. No shortcuts here, the staged
injectors are fully sequential and you can define exactly how much fuel they deliver via a 357 point Load/RPM table.
*Direct Drive Ignition (Optional on Basic EMS; Std. on Advanced EMS) - Feature eliminates a need for an igniter or ignition module. On Basic EMS, requires optional igniters or optinal CDI (4 or 8-channel).
*On-Board Wide band UEGO Controller (Optional on Basic EMS; Std. on Advanced EMS) - Advanced EMS includes dual wide band UEGO sensors. Single or dual channel UEGO optional on Basic EMS.
*Up to 16 General Purpose Outputs (Basic EMS) Up to 30 Outputs (Advanced EMS) - As an example,
on a 6 cylinder engine, all unused injector & coil drivers as well as various other outputs can be used for other applications. Tired of trying to decide if the ECU should control your radiator fan or your
fuel pump? No problem. With 16 dedicated GPO's you can activate most anything; there's virtually no way you could use
all the outputs available on the EMS. Both Low Side (switched ground) and Hi Side (Switched +12v) GPO's are available.
Each is activated based on user defined load, temp, TPS, RPM or speed thresholds. Alternately, they can be activated
by dedicated functions like fuel pump, cooling fan, gear dependant shift light, AFR warning light, and so on. Not
enough for you? Additionally, unused fuel (10), coil (5), stepper (8) and PW (2) drivers are also available as additional
GPO's bringing the potential number of GPO's to a staggering 41. Think about the possibilities.
*7 Definable Switch Inputs - Want a 2-step launch
control? Want to control your A/C? Want a dry nitrous setup? Want them all at the same time? What you need are
switch inputs, lots of them. We have 7. That's more than anyone else. It should be more than enough.
*Electronic Boost Control - AEM has full boost
control, can be adjusted to hit a target boost number, and can vary by vehicle speed, engine speed, throttle
position, or a switched input. Most competing products use a generic PWM to vary duty cycle of a control solenoid,
making boost setting hit or miss. You won't need to buy a piggyback boost controller ever again! The one that is
included with the EMS at no extra cost is state-of-the-art. It can drive the factory or aftermarket boost solenoids
and can work with all boost levels. It can run in open loop (MBC mode) or full feedback with a 357 point boost target
table. Not enough? How about a cockpit boost target override switch or a boost target defined by vehicle speed? The
EMS can do it all.
*Soft Cut Rev Limiters - Utilizing user programmable
stages, the EMS offers 5 distinct modes of rev limiter. With ignition retard, programmable partial cylinder cut of fuel
and/or spark, and full cut of fuel and/or spark. The combinations are almost limitless.
*2-Step Launch Control - The EMS gives you the ability
to define a secondary rev-limiter, commonly called a 2-step limiter (full throttle, clutch in, you use both feet, 2-step,
get it?). With a user defined RPM value and Cut %, you have the ability to tune your launch to suit the track conditions.
Additionally, with AEM's definable switch inputs, you can use the 2-step without the requirement of wiring in a
clutch switch.
*Wet or Dry Nitrous Control - With the EMS, you have
the ability to fully control your nitrous system, either wet or dry. The EMS features two 357 point fuel and spark maps
exclusively for nitrous. This allows you to add any amount of fuel and retard the timing in any way you like. Add to
this the ability to monitor your bottle pressure (with optional sensor) and activate your bottle heater and you have the
ultimate nitrous computer. All this control is included with every evosport AEM EMS sold at no additional cost!
*Definable Knock Control - There's a reason why all new
cars come with knock sensors and there is no reason not to use them. With the EMS, you can. Having user programmable
knock thresholds and full control of the quantity of fuel to add and/or timing to retard, the EMS allows you unmatched
ability to use these sensors to their full potential. As an example, the 2-channel user defined knock sensor will allow
the tuner to define background noise so that true knock can be detected. Wide band UEGO feedback to the base map will
keep the engine running at the proper air fuel mixture at all times. In addition, the feedback can be logged to aid the
tuner in fine-tuning the base map.
*Full Idle Control - With support for both PW and
stepper motor idle bypass hardware, the AEM gives you the flexibility to tune your idle just like the factory. It features
adjustable feedback rate, programmable hi idle, timing and fuel trims based on idle speed and more.
*4 EGT Inputs with Fuel Control - The EMS lets you hook
up 4 RTD type EGT sensors directly to the EMS. You can log the data or set up a fuel trim based on your exhaust
temperature. This gives you the safety to run big boost numbers and only add fuel as you need it.
*16/32 Hybrid High-Speed Processor - Utilizing an advanced 16/32 bit hybrid processor by Motorola guarantees the EMS will always be one step ahead even the most demanding operating environments.

AEM’s 4-Channel K-Type Thermocouple Amplifier provides laboratory-grade accuracy for virtually any on-board temperature measurements. This unit utilizes low-cost K-Type thermocouple amplifiers to measure multiple engine system temperatures with better accuracy and faster response times than currently available temperature-measuring devices.
Unlike common single-channel gauges and amplifiers whose readings can vary up to 20? C from actual temperatures, AEM guarantees its 4-Channel K-Type Thermocouple Amplifier to read better than 1% full scale, even at the extremes of the temperature range! The unit achieves its laboratory-grade accuracy via a 100% surface-mounted PCB (printed circuit board) that has four differential temperature inputs fed into an A/D converter and fitted using a stage-three, eighth-order polynomial curve fit. The amplifier then compensates for this value using AEM’s on-board cold junction temperature measurement, and then sends the temperature outputs on feedback-monitored 0-5v analog outputs and an RS-232 serial data stream.
The 4-Channel K-Type Thermocouple Amplifier is ideal for users who want to accurately monitor multiple engine system temperatures, including water, air, coolant, fuel, disc brake and more. Multiple channels allow you to use each amp to simultaneously read different system temperatures (one channel for EGT, one channel for CLT, etc.). Users can utilize ANY K-Type thermocouple including commonly-available miniature thermocouple connectors, and datalog the readings via an RS-232 serial data stream. K-Type sensors sold separately.

AEM’s external Peak & Hold Injector Driver module allows ECU’s that have a saturated injector drive circuit to trigger low impedance injectors with a true 4/1 Peak & Hold injector drive circuit.
AEM’s Peak & Hold Injector Driver contains 10 independent injector drive channels. Each channel supplies full battery voltage to a fuel injector for rapid current rise, in order to produce positive injector opening. When load current reaches 4.1A (amps), the injector driver reduces the load current to 1.1A and operates as a constant current source. This condition holds the injector open, and reduces system power dissipation. If the current fails to reach 4.1A within 5mS, the driver module automatically reduces the load current to 1.1A.
Installation is straightforward. Users simply hook the injector trigger wires from an ECU to the module, and then hook the output wires from the module to your injectors. Any number of channels can be used from one to 10.
